About the Program:
HIM is a two-year associate degree program that integrates medical science, coding systems, computer technology and health care management.
As a student in HIM, you will take 20 credit hours in general education and 46 credit
hours in HIM coursework. You can take HIM courses during the day at our Bentonville location, at night at our
Washington County location, or online. Eighty hour clinical rotations will be held
in the summer semester (first year) and spring semester (second year).
A HIM technical certificate is embedded into the college's Health Information Management Associate of Applied Science Degree program and requires acquisition of 32 credits, which all can be used toward the HIM associate degree.
Successful completion of an accredited HIM program leads to an associate of applied science degree and eligibility to sit for the Registered Health Information Technology (RHIT) examination.
NWACC's HIM program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM).
Graduating from a CAHIIM accredited program offers employers assurance that you have the expected professional knowledge and skills, and have experienced a curriculum that is relevant to today's electronic health record (EHR) environment.
As a graduate, you will have completed an accredited CAHIIM program in order to be eligible to take the AHIMA professional HIM certification exam and become certified.
The Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM) strives to provide the public with effective and consistent quality monitoring of health informatics and health information management programs through maintenance of accreditation processes. CAHIIM is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
