Local Ashley Pointer Became Newest Member of NWACC Board of Trustees
Ashley Pointer of Bentonville has been appointed to the NorthWest Arkansas Community College Board of Trustees by Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders. She was sworn in at 8:30 a.m. June 9, 2025, at the Benton County Courthouse ahead of that day's board meeting.
Pointer will fill the seat previously occupied by Dr. Carolyn Reeves, whose departure was due to accepting a rheumatology fellowship at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock. Reeves resigned during the May board meeting.
Ashley Pointer has lived in Northwest Arkansas since 2013, when she and her family relocated from Texas. She has been owner of Card My Yard since 2019 and enjoys supporting local schools by serving on the Parent Teacher Organization of each school that her five children attend.
Prior to becoming a small business owner, Pointer served as an Academic Interventionist, 504 Coordinator and Testing Coordinator for McCullough Junior High in the Woodlands, Texas, where she got her career start as an 8thgrade English language arts teacher. McCullough was the largest junior high in Texas for a 7th and 8th grade campus.
“I loved teaching,” she said. “I loved working with students and working with staff.”
Pointer earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Baylor University and a master’s in education, with a curriculum and instruction focus from Texas A&M University. She describes herself as an educator at heart and finds the processes behind academic administration fascinating. Her husband Lucas Pointer previously served on the NWACC Board of Trustees, and she said she always loved hearing what all went into the operation of a community college.
“What I love about NWACC is that they have really quality programs and specific degree plans and routes you can take for career paths,” Pointer said. “I love that they have options for kids to get certified or get their degree in something they’re passionate about, and then stay in the community and give back to it.”
Pointer is excited to gain experience on the NWACC Board of Trustees and to bring a parent’s perspective to the table. As a small business owner, she looks forward to learning how the community can support the college better.
