NWACC, MIT explore AI curriculum

Representatives of NWACC and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) PATH (Pathways for AI Training and Hiring) program met for two days in Bentonville this week to explore developing artificial intelligence (AI) curriculum for professional skills training.
On Wednesday and Thursday, July 22-23, MIT PATH representatives and NWACC leadership and faculty jointly hosted regional business leaders and stakeholders to identify priority AI-skill needs and guide the design of programs in the areas of retail, logistics, robotics and healthcare.
The two-day conversation was held in conjunction with the MIT PATH program, a workforce development initiative designed to help learners – regardless of background – secure jobs in the growing AI economy. Headquartered within MIT RAISE at the MIT Media Lab, it creates AI training pathways through local community colleges.
Invited guests from each industry took part in discussions and workshops aimed at identifying challenges and needs to help guide the design of new professional skills training, microcredentials, badges, certificates and future program pathways.
The strategic collaboration between NWACC and MIT PATH can serve as a model for how higher education institutions can join efforts to accelerate AI literacy and adoption.
