MMR and Tuberculosis Information

Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) Immunization Requirement

NWACC implements and complies with the Arkansas State Board of Health Rules and Regulations Pertaining to Immunization Requirements, Promulgated Under the Authority of Ark. Code Ann. §§ 20-7-109, 6-18-702, 6-60-501 - 504. With the purpose to protect the public health of our campuses, NWACC supplements the Arkansas State Board of Health Rules and Regulations Pertaining to Immunization Requirement Section III.C. by requiring all incoming students, to show proof of immunization, immunity or medical or other lawful exemption, of two doses of MMR vaccine, or birth prior to 1957. This requirement is for ALL students. Online students are not exempt.

  • For Arkansas residents, NWACC will attempt to retrieve immunization records from a statewide database. If we are unable to retrieve your documentation, you will need to submit your documentation after being accepted.

Acceptable proof of MMR immunization is documentation issued by a licensed medical doctor, an authorized public health representative, an Arkansas education institution (high school or college) or the U.S. Military.

  • Documentation must be in English and reflect the student’s name, at least 1 piece of personal identifiable information outside of the student’s name, the vaccine type and the dates that the vaccines were administered.

Acceptable proof of MMR immunization exemption and immunity is documentation issued by the Arkansas Department of Health or the U.S. Military. Religious, medical, and philosophical exemption must be valid for the current school year and will need to be updated every school year.

For documentation of immunity to the MMR vaccine, the student needs serology (titer) testing and demonstrated immunity to all three diseases: measles, mumps, and rubella. Supporting documentation, including the student’s full name, date of birth, and address, needs to be submitted to the Arkansas Department of Health by mail, email, or fax for review. The exemption application is not required for the process of requesting an immunity determination. Upon verification, the Arkansas Department of Health will issue a letter confirming immunity, which does not require annual renewal. The letter documenting immunity must then be provided to NWACC by the student.

Submission for immunity review may be made to the Arkansas Department of Health, Attn: Exemptions, 4815 West Markham St, Mail Slot #48, Little Rock, AR 72205; email Immunization.Section@arkansas.gov; or fax (501) 661-2300.

Tuberculosis (TB) Test Result Requirement

All foreign-born students born in a country where Tuberculosis (TB) is endemic, who are not U.S. Citizens or Permanent Residents, are required to submit TB test results within 30 days of the first semester of which they are enrolled.

Students who have had the required screening performed in the U.S. Military or Canada within the six months prior to enrollment will not be required to have it repeated, provided that they present satisfactory documentation.

Acceptable proof of TB screening results is documentation issued by a licensed medical doctor, an authorized public health representative or the U.S. Military.

  • Documentation must be in English and reflect the student’s name, at least 1 piece of personal identifiable information outside of the student’s name, the date it was applied, the date the test result was determined and the results.
  • A negative chest x-ray is not a substitute for a skin test.

When a TB skin test (TST) causes 10mm or more of induration or an Interferon-Gama Release Assay (IGR) test is positive, the student will need to have the Arkansas Certification of Tuberculosis Screening for Institutions of Higher Education and addendum completed by a physician and returned to NWACC within 10 business days.

  • Students who test positive for TB are not permitted to visit any of the NWACC Campus locations until the Arkansas Certification of Tuberculosis Screening for Institutions of Higher Education and addendum is completed by a physician and submitted to NWACC reflecting that the student is not contagious and can return on-campus.

TB is not endemic in the countries listed below and students born in these countries are NOT required to submit TB test results.
