Coconut Gelato by Robert Andes

The NWACC Art Club will be hosting painter and adjunct instructor Robert Andes onThursday, September 24 at 7:00 PM, in room B102 of the Shewmaker Center. He will be talking about his work that he will share in a slideshow. In his work, he seeks to convey a sense of “quiet contemplation.” He says, “I want to create a reality of my own in which there is a dream like quality and where there is something jarringly lifelike as though a person is captured within the canvas.”

Robert Andes is a native of New Hampshire who has been painting since the age of 13 when he decided to be an artist. His interest has always been in creating images of people in formal portraiture, natural settings, and moments of quiet. He graduated in 2003 from Oklahoma State University with a BFA in painting and art history and is a recent graduate of the MFA program at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, where he now makes his home and studio. His work has appeared in national and regional exhibitions including the 2008 Eastern Regional Oil Painters of America Juried Art Show. During 2007-08 Robert was a visiting Assistant Professor of Art at Arkansas Tech University. In addition to painting, Robert works as an advocate for the advancement of the arts in the Fayetteville area, and teaches drawing and painting at local art venues. Admission is free to this event.
