Pharmacy Tech Program


The Pharmacy Technician Program at NorthWest Arkansas Community College (NWACC) prepares students for entry-level employment in retail, hospital, and institutional pharmacy settings. This comprehensive program combines classroom instruction, laboratory practice, and hands-on skill development to ensure graduates are well-prepared to support pharmacists in delivering safe and effective patient care. 

Students develop foundational knowledge in pharmacology, pharmacy law, medication safety, and pharmacy operations while gaining practical experience in both technical and customer service skills. The curriculum emphasizes accuracy, attention to detail, professionalism, and ethical standards required in today’s healthcare environments. 

Throughout the course, students will learn to: 

  • Interpret prescription orders and accurately enter medication information into pharmacy systems 
  • Prepare, label, and package medications under the supervision of a pharmacist 
  • Calculate medication dosages and perform pharmaceutical math 
  • Manage inventory, including receiving, storing, and maintaining medications 
  • Understand pharmacy law, HIPAA regulations, and patient confidentiality 
  • Process insurance claims and assist with billing procedures 
  • Apply medication safety standards and quality assurance practices 
  • Communicate effectively with patients and healthcare professionals 

 

Upon successful completion of the program, students will be eligible to sit for a nationally recognized pharmacy technician certification examination, strengthening their credentials and employment opportunities in the healthcare field. 

NWACC’s Pharmacy Technician Program provides students with the knowledge, technical skills, and confidence needed to enter the workforce immediately while also serving as a strong foundation for those who wish to pursue further education in pharmacy or other healthcare professions.
