Communications & Cinematic Studies

The Department of Communication includes the disciplines of Public Speaking and Film Arts. Students take communication courses to prepare to transfer with a major in communication or to meet general education requirements. Transferring to earn a bachelor's degree in communication can lead to a career in a variety of professions that involve working directly with others. Effective public speaking is examined through the study and delivery of different types of speeches. Film Arts examines the evolution, influence, and artistic elements of American film from the late 1800s to the present. Both classes allow students the opportunity to conduct quality research whether for speeches or for papers and projects concerning film. Public Speaking may transfer as a required course for a communication major and/or as an elective for both communication majors and non-majors. Film Arts is a transferable Humanities/Fine Arts course.
