English for Bilingual Students

ENGB 0053 Beginning Writing

This paragraph level course is designed for bilingual students whose first or familial language is not English. While students may exhibit intermediate to advanced speaking skills, placement scores at this level indicate a need to work on advanced writing skills. The primary focus of this course will be the improvement of written communication skills necessary for academic and/or professional purposes. Students will work extensively on basic sentence structure, punctuation, and vocabulary. (This course moves from sentence level to paragraph level.) Students who succeed with a "C" or better may proceed to ENGB 0063.

Prerequisites: appropriate COMPASS test scores or approval of ENGB Coordinator.
