Join NWACC Music Professor and tour guide Miles Fish for a ten-day celebration of Beethoven's 250th birthday in Bonn and Cologne, Germany! As a year-long international celebration, you'll experience concerts, performances, historic and cultural tours as well as delicious Rhindeland food and wine.

  • Arrival: Group Dinner / Bonn Hilton Cookout

  • Morning: Historic Bonn Walking tour with Miles

  • Lunch: Lunch at Gasthaus Im Stiefel

SUNDAY—August 30

  • Evening: Concert and Dinner at Drachenburg Castle 

MONDAY—August 31

  • Morning: Beethoven-Haus tour with Miles

  • Lunch: Miebach's Bistro

TUESDAY—September 1

  • Morning/Afternoon: Museum Mile Tour with Miles

  • Late Afternoon: Cocktail Rhine River Cruise (1 1/2 hours)

  • Five evenings — August 29, 31 and September 1, 2, 6 — have been left open to schedule additional concerts for those who want more music performance. As additional concert offerings are announced during the year, Miles will keep you informed by email. Additional concerts/recitals should be booked and paid for by the individual.

  • Minimum and maximum number of participants is 20

Additional Information:

For our community trips abroad, you are not required to be an NWACC student or employee. It's open to the public.


  • Köln (Cologne)/Bonn Airport

  • Included $100 USD Airport/BonnHilton/Airport per person taxi allowance .


  • Ten nights standard double room Bonn Hilton on the Rhine River

  • Room upgrades are available. All room preferences are limited to availability at the time of booking.

Excursions & Transportation:

  • Walking tour of Bonn with Miles

  • Concert at Schloss Drachenburg Castle (includes transpiration to/from)

  • Beethoven-haus tour with Miles

  • Cocktail River Cruise (1 1/2 hours)

  • Public transportion to Cologne

  • Private tour of Cologne Cathedral 

  • Beethoven Ninth Symphony Concert

Of the total cost for the 10-day trip to Germany, $200 will go toward study abroad scholarship opportunities for NWACC students. This $200 qualifies as a tax deductible donation.

Be sure and check that your passport is current at least 6 months after the end date of this trip. If it expires sooner, you must get it renewed.

Trip Costs:

  • Deposit of $500 due on October 21, 2019 (reserve your spot on the trip)
  • Final estimated payment due December 10, 2019
  • Estimated total cost (including $200 study abroad scholarship donation): $2,975*
  • *Airfare not included
  • All payments are 100% refundable when NWACC Foundation is notified via email before midnight December 9, 2019. See application for more details.

Room Costs:

The three categories of rooms at the Bonn Hilton:
  • Standard Double (trip total: $2,975 per person double occupancy)
  • River View (trip total + $491.00 per person double occupancy)
  • Junior Suite (trip total + $1,184 per person double occupancy)
  • Single Standard (trip total + $1,112.00)
All room preferences are limited to availability at the time of booking.


  • September marks the beginning of "High Season" in the German Rhineland.

  • Bonn charges hotel guest 5% of the hotel bill. This 5% room charge is included in the cost total. However, charges made during the stay (restaurant, bar, etc) will be paid by individuals upon check-out with the additional 5% of post-check-in purchases.

  • If an event or meal is canceled, an event or meal of equal or greater value will replace it.



Dr. Miles Fish

For 19 years, NWACC Music Professor Miles Fish has spent summers teaching, studying and researching while based in Siena, Italy. 

Miles has taught and conducted music ensembles at NWACC for more than twenty years. He is a National Endowment for Humanities American’s Music Scholar, Conrad Kruaft Research Grant Award recipient for Beethoven research in Bonn and Vienna, an NWACC Sabbatical recipient, and two time NWACC faculty Innovative Grant winner.

He is the founder of the Civic Symphony Orchestra of Benton County, and for 10 years, he served as conductor/artistic director. Later, he became a founder of the Arkansas Philharmonic Orchestra and served one season as a conductor.

For the past decade, in addition to teaching and traveling,
 Miles has been instrumental in creating innovative international study abroad programs for NWACC students and members of the northwest Arkansas community.
