Experience Argentina: Buenos Aires and Patagonia

Experience the rhythms of bustling Buenos Aires and the majestic glaciers and natural wonder of Patagonia with an eight-day adventure of a life time in Argentina!

Join NWACC World History Professor and traveler Dr. Sevin Gallo and journey through Latin American cosmopolitan history and culture, and see for yourself why Buenos Aires is continuously ranked as one of the best cities in the world. 

Enjoy neighborhood walking tours filled with beautiful examples of Buenos Aires’ architecture, food, art, music and nightlife, including a world class tango show. Hike across the Perito Moreno Glacier and spend a day horseback riding or kayaking in the National Glacier Park. Spend your evenings in the charming town of El Calafate with typical Patagonian dinners and an expert-led wine tasting of Argentina’s best Malbecs, Bonardas and Pinot Noirs.

The Experience Argentina trip is designed for the curious who want to experience two different worlds in one country - all in one mind-blowing week.

8-Day Trip Itinerary: March 20 - 28, 2020

DAY 1: Friday, March 20

  • Depart USA for Buenos Aires, Argentina (EZE airport code)
  • Arrange your own flight (airfare not included).


DAY 2 : Saturday, March 21

Buenos Aires:

  • Arrive in Buenos Aires.
  • Airport transfer to hotel.
  • Check-in hotel and refresh. We are staying in the Palermo neighborhood.
  • Meet in hotel garden for orientation and walking tour at 5 p.m.
  • Enjoy group welcome dinner and classic tango show.


DAY 3: Sunday, March 22

Buenos Aires:

  • Breakfast and day briefing
  • Historic walking tours: Casa Rosado, Plaza de Mayo, Puerto Madero, San Telmo
  • Tour El Zanjon 
  • Enjoy lunch on your own and an afternoon of shopping and exploring in San Telmo
  • Sunday is the famous artist market/ street fair in San Telmo.
  • Meet back at Plaza de Mayo
  • Return to Palermo to relax and refresh
  • Group dinner and Classic Parilla Tour in Palermo

 

DAY 4: Monday, March 23

Buenos Aires:

  • Breakfast and day briefing
  • Teatro Colon tour, walking tour of Retiro and Recoleta neighborhoods.
  • Enjoy lunch on your own near Recoleta Cultural Center.
  • Visit the Recoleta Cemetery.
  • Return to refresh for the evening.
  • Group dinner
  • Enjoy an optional tango lesson and dancing at a milonga in Barraca or celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at an Irish pub in Palermo

 

DAY 5: Tuesday, March 24

Buenos Aires:

  • Breakfast and day briefing
  • Visit Bosque De Palermo, Botanical Gardens
  • Visit the Evita Museum and enjoy lunch at Evita Museum
  • Free Time
  • Enjoy a dinner on your own.

 

DAY 6: Wednesday, March 25

Buenos Aires & El Calafate, Patagonia

  • Breakfast and day briefing
  • Fly to El Calafate
  • Check-in and refresh
  • Walking tour of town and glacier museum
  • Visit La Tienda de Vinos and enjoy wine tasting and group dinner

 

DAY 7: Thursday, March 26

El Calafate, Patagonia

  • Breakfast and day briefing
  • Full day hike over the glacier
  • Evening group dinner
  • Optional ice bar


DAY 8: Friday, March 27

El Calafate & Buenos Aires

  • Breakfast and day briefing
  • Enjoy a daily activity option: kayaking, horseback riding, zip-lining, exploring the town, and/or relaxing at the hotel
  • Late afternoon flight back to Buenos Aires
  • Farewell group dinner 


DAY 9: Saturday, March 28

Buenos Aires:

  • Breakfast and day briefing
  • Free day in Buenos Aires
  • Transfers to the airport and depart for home
  • Most flights leave Buenos Aires (EZE) to the U.S. at night (9-10 p.m.)

Additional Information:

For our community trips abroad, you are not required to be an NWACC student or employee. It's open to the public.

Seven nights of accommodations, reserved adventures (museum visits, tours, wine tasting, glacier hiking, etc.), transportation to and from Buenos Aires (EZE) airport, as well as 10 group meals are included in the cost of the trip. 

  • Please note: Each hotel room will hold two beds for two people. If you'd like a single occupancy room, there will be an additional cost of $400.

Of the total cost for the eight-day trip to Argentina, $200 will go toward study abroad scholarship opportunities for NWACC students. This $200 qualifies as a tax deductible donation.

Be sure and check that your passport is current at least 6 months after the end date of this trip. If it expires sooner, you must get it renewed.

  • Deposit of $500 due on October 20, 2019 (reserve your spot on the trip)
  • Second payment of $1,000 due November 25, 2019
  • Final payment due December 31, 2019
  • Total cost: $3,080 (plane ticket not included)

Please note: There will be an additional cost of $400 for single occupancy rooms.

Dr. Sevin Gallo is a World History Professor and Global Studies Degree Coordinator at NorthWest Arkansas Community College (NWACC). She leads study abroad programs to Turkey, Greece, and soon to Spain and Morocco. Her passion is bringing historical understanding to bear on what she thinks are the most thrilling aspects of life---travel, good food and drinks, dancing and the arts, and generally experiencing as much diversity as humanly possible.
