As northwest Arkansas continues to grow, creative design and entrepreneurial ideas
turn into construction projects, increasing the demand for creative and innovative
designers and construction technicians and management. NWACC has heard the growing
pains of community businesses and is building a solution: the Integrated Design Lab
(IDL).
Construction for the new IDL building broke ground in July of 2018, and its last beam was placed in January of 2019. The college plans to open the facility to students for
the Fall semester of 2019.
The IDL will provide needed classroom and lab space for students pursuing an education in arts and construction technology. The facility will house space to support sculptures, ceramics, a Fab Lab with 3D
printers, a CNC router, laser cutting equipment, and other tools. Students will be
encouraged to test creative entrepreneurial ideas by utilizing the skills learned
in various construction and art courses.
