NWACC Expands Offerings in Visual Arts and Media
With the completion of the new Integrated Design Lab, much of the art department’s furnishings and equipment were moved out of the college’s Burns Hall building and into the new facility. With the available space in Burns Hall, the college plans to renovate and expand the offerings in video/film, animation, web design, media production and multimedia journalism.
NEW Media Production Lab
Burns Hall will house a new media production lab for commercial and portrait photography classes, video editing and production and animation courses. It will provide a space for journalism students to create news in video format and theatre students a place to film actors' portfolios and photograph headshots. Screenwriting students will also be able to shoot short films with personally generated content. The lab will have key card entry for students and other program individuals, as well as NWACC’s marketing department.
Computer Lab Addition and Darkroom Renovation
NWACC’s Graphic Design department currently offers all courses in two computer labs and one photography darkroom. With the addition of another graphic design computer lab, the department is able to offer eight more sections of courses in the degree program, generating further growth and the ability to address industry needs.
The college plans to update areas of the aged photographic darkroom to provide a better learning environment for students. Growth in the field of photography (both darkroom and digital) is projected to continue to increase well into the future based on institutional data trends.
Photos of our progress will be added throughout the year.
