nursing-description

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, registered nursing is among the top 10 occupations with the largest job growth. Due to this high demand, NorthWest Arkansas Community College is please to offer an Associate of Applied Science degree in Nursing.

Nursing is a profession focused on the care of individuals, families and communities so they may attain, maintain or recover optimal health and quality of life from birth to death.

Nursing is ranked among the top five most trusted professions. Nurses work in a variety of specialties (examples: hospitals, schools, medical clinics, industry, long-term care, etc.) where they work as a team member or independently to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care.

At NWACC, the Associate of Applied Science degree in Nursing is designed to prepare graduates to apply for the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) and to function as Registered Nurses.  Graduates who attain RN licensure are prepared to provide client care at the beginning staff nurse level. General nursing education imparts a broad base of nursing knowledge.  Those individuals wishing to pursue further education and/or a nursing specialty will have the necessary knowledge base upon which to advance their professional career. Nursing students complete clinical experiences in area healthcare facilities.

The Nursing Program at NWACC is approved by the Arkansas State Board of Nursing and has an overall high NCLEX-RN pass rate.
