What should I do if the Library does not have the resource or information I need?
Please consult a reference librarian or use our online reference service,
Ask Us!, for assistance. To provide the most timely and cost-efficient service, we will first attempt to satisfy your information need via our Library’s print, media and online resources.

If our collections do not meet your particular needs, however, we will help you explore other options, such as requesting a library purchase, searching your public library, requesting an Interlibrary Loan, or obtaining an ARKLink or NWALink card for reciprocal borrowing privileges with other libraries.

Please note: To reduce the risk of financial liability, Interlibrary Loans, ARKLink and NWALink services are extended only to current NWACC students, faculty, and staff who have established a responsible borrowing history at NWACC Library.

How do I access the Library's subscription databases?
To access the databases, visit the Research Databases page on the library's website.  Select the database you wish to use.  On-campus access is seamless.  Off campus, you'll be asked to enter your My NWACC Connection username and password.

What should I do if I have problems accessing one or more of the Library's subscription databases?
Technical difficulties arise on occasion. If you experience problems accessing a Library database using the process described above, please try the following:

  • If you are prompted for a username and password when you click individual database links and your My NWACC Connection credentials don't work, you may need to clear your browser history or change your Internet security settings.
  • If you are off campus or using a laptop and My NWACC Connection is unavailable, please contact the Library at 479-619-4244 or library@nwacc.edu for access assistance.  We will need to verify that you are a currently enrolled/employed student, faculty, or staff member, so please email from your NWACC email address or be ready to provide your NWACC ID number.

Thank you in advance for alerting us to database access problems. Your communication allows us to address the issue as quickly as possible, to better serve you and the rest of the NWACC community. Please note technical difficulties arise for a number of reasons, many of which are beyond our immediate control. In any case, we will alert those who can fix the problem, attempt to find out when it will be fixed, and determine what--if anything--we can do to facilitate the process.

Does the Library have required textbooks I can purchase, rent or borrow all semester?
The Library does not sell current textbooks, and it does not loan textbooks (or any books) for an entire semester.

The Library has a limited number of some (not all) current textbooks. These are considered Course Reserves, and are shelved behind the reference desk. They are usually designated for in-library use only, meaning they cannot leave the Library. For more information, visit our Course Reserves page.

You may purchase or rent your textbooks from the NWACC Bookstore or another local or online book seller.

What textbooks do I need for my classes?
You can create a
customized textbook list on the NWACC Bookstore website, consult your course syllabi, or ask your instructors to determine the textbooks you will need.

Can I send or receive faxes in the Library?
The Library does not have a fax machine available for student use. However, students can send faxes at a rate of $1.00 per page at the Academic Success Center (BH 1217) and at the Information Desk near the entrance of the Student Center. At this time, there are no services available for students to receive faxes on campus.

How do I donate materials to the Library?
The Library welcomes donations of books and other library materials, but reserves the right to use and dispose of gift materials according to our current needs. Donated items will be added to the collection in accordance with the Collection Development policy. The Library will acknowledge receipt of donated items but is unable to set a fair market or appraisal value on the material.

The Library reserves the right to refuse donations determined to be inappropriate for the collection. Because processing and/or disposing of donations takes valuable staff time and resources, we ask that donors limit gifts to items that are in good to excellent condition, clean, suitable for the academic environment and current. (For example, materials covering information in the health, science and technology fields should typically be no more than three years old.)

The library reserves the right to refuse donations if the donor stipulates special conditions.

How do I borrow or rent a calculator for math?
You can borrow a calculator at the Library's Reference Desk, but these are available for in-library use only. If you wish to rent a calculator for the semester, pay $15 at the
Cashier's Office and take your receipt to the Math and Science Division in Burns Hall, Room 1418 or the Math Department in the Student Center, Room 351 to pick up a calculator.
