Two from NWACC to be honored at AATYC
BENTONVILLE (Friday, Sept. 28, 2007) – Two employees from NorthWest Arkansas Community College will be honored next week at the 19th annual fall conference of the Arkansas Association of Two-Year Colleges.
The October 14-16 conference is in Hot Springs.
Science Department Chair Carey Chaney will be presented the Outstanding Faculty award for NWACC. Jean Anderson of Bella Vista will be presented the Outstanding Staff award.
Carey Chaney
Chaney lives in Bentonville. He teaches some of the best and brightest at NWACC. As such, he’s always prepared.
Carey was hired full-time at NWACC in the fall of 1991.
In those 16 years, Chaney has consistently had excellent to outstanding student evaluations.
This is of particular merit since he has taught Anatomy and Physiology and Microbiology. Both of these subjects are prerequisites to the nursing and allied health programs, and students are quick to show concern if they feel they are not getting the instruction necessary to be successful.
“His professionalism and leadership has been of irreplaceable importance to the Division of Science and Mathematics,” Division Dean Dr. Marvin Galloway said.
In addition to his instructional excellence, Chaney has served the college in a great variety of important roles.
He served as Learning Assessment Coordinator for eight years and has chaired the Student Learning Assessment Committee for 13 years.
He has held leadership roles with the Faculty Association/Senate for many years, and served with Strategic Planning, Student Advising, Institutional Effectiveness, Faculty Handbook, Compensation Committee, and AQIP.
“There are very few faculty members at NWACC, if any, that have been an excellent or model instructor who has served in as many college wide leadership or support roles as Mr. Carey Chaney,” Galloway said.
Jean Anderson
College President Dr. Becky Paneitz would be the first to tell anyone who asks. Her former Executive Assistant to the President has had a lot to do with her success.
Anderson was Dr. Paneitz’ Executive Assistant for three and half years. Anderson is now Executive Director of Organizational Development.
“She has been invaluable to me in my role as President here at NWACC,” Dr. Paneitz said prior to Jean’s new assignment. “I can always count on her to get me where I need to be, when I need to be there.”
Dr. Paneitz said Anderson is great at multi-tasking and making sure details are always covered.
Anderson was chosen out of 10 nominees to receive the award.
“My passion for higher education, and specifically NWACC, is what motivates me to serve in any way I can to assist the College achieve its vision of becoming a nationally recognized community college,” Anderson said.
