Stacy, Howie Marshall inspire faculty-staff
BENTONVILLE (Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008) - Student Stacy Marshall, invited to speak at the 2008 Spring Forum, delivered some uplifting comments to faculty and staff last week.
“It’s been an interesting ride,” the student said of her college experience at NWACC.
In January 2007 Superior Industries had a massive layoff that affected her and her husband, Howard.
The state of Arkansas gave the couple two options: take low-paying jobs elsewhere or enroll in college.
The two (pictured at right) opted to go to school.
“There were a lot of ups and downs,” she said. “We decided it would benefits us more to move into the academic lifestyle.”
They plan to graduate in December 2008 with associate of science degrees in business.
“We plan to acquire bachelors’ degrees because of the staff here,” she told the group.
She said they had financial obstacles to overcome at NWACC, but that “teachers patted us on the back and said don’t worry. They were a tremendous help.”
The support they received at NWACC was unbelievable, she said.
“This was something we never had before,” she said.
They both recently applied and were named new members of the Student Activities and Advisory Board (SAAB).
“It’s a small way to give back to the college,” she said.
