NWACC Spring Arts Festival
BENTONVILLE (Wednesday, March 5, 2008) – The 2008 Spring Arts Festival at NorthWest Arkansas Community College will include music, drama, film, foreign language, reading and art events performed by students, faculty and community members. Unless indicated, all performances are free and open to the public.
MUSIC FESTIVAL
The Spring Flying Tomato Cabaret is 7 p.m. March 7-9 at the Shewmaker Center
The Cabaret is presented by the NWACC Chamber Singers and is sponsored by the H.J. Heinz Co. “Spaghetti and Broadway” is offered by singing servers. Cost is $15 for the dinner and show. Reservations are required. Call 619-4261.
The Student Studio Recital is 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 28, in the Music Recital Hall. NWACC music students will perform of voice, piano, organ, and guitar.
The Civic Symphony is 3 p.m. Sunday, March 30, at the Arend Arts Center at Bentonville High School. The symphony is conducted by NWACC Instructor Miles Fish. Tickets ate available at area Arvest Banks and at the door.
The NWACC Music faculty will give a recital performing works for piano, voice, brass, and organ 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 3, in the Music Recital Hall.
The Civic Symphony Chorus will perform Mozart’s Requiem 2 p.m. Saturday, April 12 at First United Methodist Church in Bentonville.
NWACC music students will give a studio recital of voice, piano, organ, and guitar in recital 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 18, in the Music Recital Hall.
The Civic Symphony of Benton County will perform a “Young People’s Concert” 2 p.m. Saturday, April 26, in the Arend Arts Center at Bentonville High School.

READING FESTIVAL
The 2008 Spring Arts Festival will include writers and teachers from NWACC and the University of Arkansas reading from their work and answering questions about writing.
All performances are free and open to the public.
Wednesday, April 2, in the Music Recital Room (BH 2303), Denise Nemec will read 1-1:30 p.m. followed by Ashley Edwards from 1:30-2:00 p.m.
Monday, April 7, in the Music Recital Room (BH 2303), Cecelia Hitte will read 1:30-2:00 p.m. followed by Cindy King from 2-2:30 p.m. and Angie Albright from 2:30-3 p.m.
Tuesday, April 15, in Student Center Room 108B, students will read noon to 1 p.m. from their work.
Wednesday, April 16, in the Music Recital Room (BH 2303), James Pilant will read from 1-1:30 p.m. followed by Cherri Randall from 1:30-2:00 p.m. and Danny Sheffield from 2-2:30 p.m.
Thursday, April 17, in Student Center Room 108B, students will read noon to 1 p.m. from their work.
Friday, April 25, in the Music Recital Room (BH 2303) Mohja Kahf will read 1-2:30 p.m.

DRAMA
NWACC’s Drama Department presents King Lear as part of the Springs Arts Festival. Performances are 7 p.m. March 7-8 and 14-15 and 2 p.m. March 9 and 16 at White Auditorium.
Tickets are $6 for NWACC students, faculty, staff and senior citizens. Tickets are $8 for the general public. Anyone bringing a non-perishable food item will receive $1 off the ticket price. All tickets are sold at the door. There are no advance ticket sales.
NWACC's Creative Dramatics Troupe, "The Letter Heads," will perform “Bringing Poetry to Life” in White Auditorium. The performance is 1:45-2:30 p.m. April 17. Admission is free.
The Drama Department is conducting its third annual short playwriting contest. The contest is open to all NWACC students, faculty, and staff. Deadline for submissions is March 31, 2008. For more information, contact Mary Moore, 619-4228 or mmoore@nwacc.edu
FILM NIGHT
Students will be chanting TOGA! TOGA! TOGA! for Film Night this spring.
Film Night presents the college cult classic, Animal House 7 p.m. Friday, April 4, in White Auditorium.
Admission is a can of cat or dog food to be donated to area animal shelters Togas or other appropriate Animal House attire is encouraged. The film contains adult content and is not suitable for young children.
FOREIGN LANGUAGES
Pat Carr was scheduled to do a reading called “Two Historical Events: A Woman's Perspective” on Tuesday, March 4, in honor of Women's History Month. She was scheduled to read from her book If We Must Die about the Tulsa race riot and her story "Diary of a Union Soldier."
The International Languages and Humanities programs sponsored the reading.
Bob Cochran will be presenting on two Arkansas photographers, Geleve Grice and Mike Disfarmer, on March 25 or 27 1:30-2:45 p.m. The location will be announced.
The International Languages and Humanities programs are sponsoring this as well.
ART
The Student Art Competition and Show will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 25, throughout the Art Department and Graphic Design Department hallways and classrooms in Burns Hall.
Student work in graphic design and fine art is judged by faculty and exhibited. The public is invited. Refreshments will be served.
