Rey Hernandez Elected LULAC State Deputy Director

Rey Hernandez            BENTONVILLE (Tuesday, June 3, 2008) – Rey Hernandez, an instructor at NorthWest Arkansas Community College Adult Education, was elected state deputy director for the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) at its state convention held here this past weekend.

            The LULAC Arkansas State 2008 convention was held at NWACC Saturday, May 31. A new board of directors was elected, which include:

  • Arkansas State Director Charles Cervantes (Little Rock) (pictured with Hernandez);
  • Arkansas State Deputy Director Rey Hernandez (NWA);
  • Treasurer Leslie Gordon (Little Rock);
  • Deputy Director Young Adults Rafael Garcia (NWA);
  • Deputy Director Youth Affairs Cynthia Castilla (NWA);
  • Deputy Director Women's Affairs Ana Aguallo (NWA);
  • Communications Director Michel Leidermann (Little Rock);
  • Parliamentarian Bob Gordon (Little Rock).

            There are pending appointments for Secretary and for Deputy Director Elderly Affairs who will be announced by the state director at a later date.

            The new board committed to work to increase membership, expand the opportunities for Latino students in institutions of higher education and to promote Latino participation on state boards and commissions as well as on boards of non for profit corporations throughout the state.

            The 2009 state convention will be held in be held in Little Rock sponsored by Council 750.
