NWACC Eagle View to resume publication

BENTONVILLE (Aug. 21, 2007) – The NorthWest Arkansas Community College student newspaper, the Eagle View, resumes publication this fall with plans to publish two times, Monday, Oct. 1, and Monday, Nov. 29, NWACC newspaper Advisor Jessica Duvall said Friday.

The Eagle View, a 12-page tabloid, premiered last spring. Students write and edit all the copy, take the photographs, create illustrations and lay out the paper.

“We’re looking for students who either think or know they have an interest in journalism or the newspaper industry,” Duvall said.

Journalism writing helps students become more efficient writers, she said.

“Plus, some students like to see their names in print,” Duvall said.

She said working at a student newspaper teaches students viable workplace skills such as working on deadlines, working with others, accepting constructive criticism through editing and honing skills in efficient and concise writing.

Duvall has a B.A. in journalism from the University of Arkansas and is completing an M.A. in journalism there as well. She has five years experience on the staffs of student newspapers and two years experience with journalism workshops.

The NWACC Eagle View contains paid advertising. Students interested in selling advertising should contact Kent Eikenberry at The Morning News, keikenberry@nwaonline.net

The publication is supported by The Morning News, which sells advertising, prints the publication and collaborates with students on all phases on the newspaper industry.

Duvall can be reached at nwacceagleview@yahoo.com.

She said she is “ready and available to come to NWACC classes and talk with students for a few minutes about the benefits and excitement that come with student newspapering.”

Duvall will have an office in the Student Activities section of the Student Center (room 114-H). Her telephone is expected to be connected later this week.
