NWACC RTC expands to Gentry
GENTRY (Tuesday, July 31, 2007) – The Regional Technology Center and Adult Education Department at NorthWest Arkansas Community College will open a satellite branch on the campus of Gentry Pubic Schools August 20.
The RTC, based in Fayetteville, will offer high school students on the west side of Benton County opportunities to take vocational programming in aviation maintenance instruction and some medical professions classes. The criminal justice and pre-engineering programs are relocating from the RTC to the Gentry facility.
The medical professions classes will be the basic level classes that lead towards certification as a nursing assistant.
The Gentry facility, located at 201 South Giles, will operate from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Area high school students can still enroll in these programs and take classes during the school day at the Gentry facility.
The Adult Education Department, based in Rogers, will offer day and evening classes.
Adult Education
Adult Education classes will operate day and night. The NWACC Adult Education program provides instruction in basic academic skills, GED Preparation, and English As A Second Language. All classes are free. Classes are offered open-entry and open-exit, meaning students may begin at any time and advance at their own pace.
Staffing and move in
The College will have at the Gentry site a full time administrative assistant, a full-time instructor and two full-time instructors at Gentry one half time.
NWACC is in the process of setting up the facility this week, hanging white boards. Furniture was moved here last week. Lab equipment will be installed within the next two weeks.
Cosmetology coming Siloam Springs in late August
Also in west Benton County, NWACC is starting cosmetology in Siloam Springs in late August. A building is being remolded to house cosmetology, which is offered through the RTC.
