First NWALink Card Issued to NWACC Student
BENTONVILLE (Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008) - At first, the situation looked grim for NWACC student Shane Jordan. His assignment due date crept closer, but the video he needed to write his paper was already checked out to someone else.
To make matters worse, another NWACC Library user beat him to the punch by placing a reservation awaiting the film’s return.
Jordan’s options for completing his communications assignment were shrinking fast. The librarian on duty, however, had an ace up her sleeve.
In the midst of resource sharing negotiations with Rogers Public Library, she realized Jordan’s predicament presented the perfect case for a trial run.
A search on RPL’s online catalog verified their copy of the video in question was indeed available. After a quick call and some paperwork, Jordan was issued the very first NWALink Card on February 15, allowing him to check out the video for free at Rogers.
Typically, out-of-district library users pay a $15 annual fee for borrowing privileges at Rogers Public Library.
With his 77-mile commute from Boston, Arkansas, Jordan drives to the Bentonville campus twice a week. The NWALink Card saved him travel time, gas and money, providing the resources he needed to finish his schoolwork in a timely fashion.
Jordan’s response says it all: “Your librarian skills are awesome!”
NWACC librarians met with representatives from Rogers, Bentonville, and Bella Vista public libraries on Thursday, February 21 to finalize details with Rogers and invite the others to participate in the emergent reciprocal lending program.
For more information or to register for an NWALink Card, stop by the Pauline Whitaker Library in BH 1118.
Please note membership privileges are restricted to those with responsible borrowing histories; certain restrictions apply.
