Volunteers needed for 2nd annual
Girls of Promise
Regional Conference at NWACC April 26
BENTONVILLE (Wednesday, April 2, 2008) - NWACC will host the second annual regional Girls of Promise Conference 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at Burns Hall and the Student Center. It’s sponsored by the Women’s Foundation of Arkansas.
Last year 100 eight grade girls from northwest Arkansas attended the conference.
“We haven’t even begun to publicly advertise registration and already have 85 girls signed up this year,” said Lynda Lloyd, NWACC liaison to WFA and local Girls of Promise Coordinator. “Our goal is to bring 200 eighth grade girls to our campus and introduce them to female role models in non-traditional careers.
“Eighth grade is the perfect time to encourage our young women to pursue studies in math and science and to let them know that girls can be engineers, mathematicians, and scientist’s too.”
This year’s key note speaker is Ms. Mary Beth Brooks, President and CEO of Bank of Fayetteville. Ms. Brooks recently received the “Executive of the Year Award.”
Volunteers are needed to help chaperone the girls as well as for set up. If you are interested in spending the day positively impacting the lives of young women or if you are interested in facilitating a workshop for Girls of Promise please contact Lloyd, 619-4248, llloyd@nwacc.edu.
