Culinary students steal the show

College President lauds students, staff

BENTONVILLE (Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2007) – Regional Technology Center Culinary Program students once again stole the show at the annual NWACC Foundation Donor Reception held Dec. 6.

Chef instructor Tuesday Eastlack (pictured right) said all 28 RTC Culinary students from 13 different high schools helped prepare the menu. They studied recipes all semester and put the culinary delights together as teams representing each of the 4 blocks she teaches.

Tuesday Eastlack           There were 10 students who delivered, set up, served and cleaned up at the Dec. 6 event put on for people who donate to the NWACC Foundation.

“Catering is quite a bit different than serving on campus,” Tuesday said. “It takes a lot more work.”

That effort was not overlooked by College President Dr. Becky Paneitz who said she truly appreciated it.

“Our students are so creative,” she said. “I want to thank each of them along with Tuesday. They did an outstanding job. We’re so proud of them.”

Dr. Paneitz also said she appreciated and thanked the work of the NWACC Development Team that organized and sponsored the reception on behalf of the Foundation.

Among the crowd favorites, Tuesday said the grapes rolled in cream- gorgonzola cheese and ground pistachios got the most numerous compliments on flavor. The penguin garnishes (pictured below) surrounding the baked Brie en Croute were a big hit for their creativity.

The RTC student who did the whole grilled beef tenderloin carving was Guadalupe Pena Jr. of Fayetteville High School. He is a second year culinary arts student.

Penguin garnishes            “I was excited that the students were so enthusiastic about the event,” Tuesday said. “This was the second time this semester students were able to display their works in a catering environment.”

They presented at the Fayetteville Town Center Arts Festival.

“I am proud of students for taking these events so serious,” she said. “They present themselves professionally in public.
