HVAC certificate presentations tonight
NWACC-Corporate Learning Skilled Trades Program is proud to announce its first HVAC Graduating Class. Jackie Abbott, Ronald Barnett, David Berkshire, Andrew Cozens, Alan Frasure, Darrel Habermehl, Shamar Habermehl, Ray Hubanks, Odonias Mendoza, James Nelson, Margarito Paniagua, William Sickles and Theo Smith have completed the 18-month Certificate Course in HVAC. Skilled Trades Coordinator Rick Mayes said a short Certificate Ceremony will be held 5:30 p.m. tonight, May 8, 5:30 p.m. at the Shewmaker Center.

Purchasing Policies & Procedures
The Purchasing Department will hold Purchasing Policies & Procedures training the 2nd Thursday of each month. Our next session is Thursday, May 8th, in Room SCWT C205, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. The session will cover all areas discussed in previous purchasing training sessions throughout FY08, as well as travel information policies and procedures.
In addition, individuals responsible for departmental budgets who have been pre-approved for access in the Banner system, are invited to attend an afternoon Banner training session. Marie Scharfenberg, Banner Development and Training Specialist, will cover Banner budget navigation and monitoring from 1 to 4 p.m.
All employees new to NWACC, and current employees with questions or needing a refresher, are invited to attend Purchasing Policies and Procedures training in the morning. NWACC Commencement is 7 p.m. Friday, May 9, at the John Q. Hammons Center. Speaker is Paul Vitale, a native of Russellville who graduated from the University of Central Arkansas in 1995 with a degree in Mass Communications and Journalism.
Vitale’s clients include ESPN Outdoors, the Georgia Department of Education, the U.S. Postal Service, Dole-Hong Kong, Southwest Airlines, the Washington Redskins, ALLTEL Communications, the University of Kentucky and the University of Georgia.
Master of Ceremony is Dr. Linda Lovell, Faculty Senate president. Head Marshal is Dr. Theo Ekechukwu, a sociology instructor. |

Satellite training center at NWACC to debut first courses
NWACC will debut its first two courses this month as part of a consortium of U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Education satellite training centers.
The University of Texas at Arlington selected NWACC this past March as a partner in the venture.
The courses are OSHA 500 for Construction and OSHA 501 for General Industry.
OSHA 500 for Construction uses OSHA’s standards as a guide and is designed for private sector workers interested in developing safety and health programs in the construction industry and gaining effective training techniques with a special emphasis on the most hazardous areas in construction in Northwest Arkansas.
The class meets at Burns Hall May 12 - 15
501 for General Industry presents information on how OSHA provisions may be implemented in the workplace. Worker and employer rights and responsibilities under the OSH Act, the appeals process, recordkeeping, and voluntary protection programs will be covered.
The class also meets at Burns Hall May, 19 - 22.
This new addition by the UT Arlington Division for Enterprise Development will serve safety and health instructional needs of the federal government in Arkansas.
