Long-time Physics Instructor Retires
BENTONVILLE (Tuesday, May 20, 2008) – NorthWest Arkansas Community College instructor Frank Troseth was recognized and applauded on his retirement by the Board of Trustees at its monthly meeting Monday, May 19.
Troseth, one of the founding faculty members at NWACC, taught for the North Arkansas College West Campus, which was the successor to NWACC.
He taught at NAC’s West Campus operation in Rogers for one year before joining the faculty at NWACC. He taught physics at NWACC since fall 1990.
Troseth was presented a plaque by College President Dr. Becky Paneitz (pictured at right) and Board Chair Coleman Peterson.
He told Trustees that he relocated to northwest Arkansas and was seeking employment. The person at Arkansas Employment Security Division took one look at Troseth’s resume and told him to the registrar at NAC West Campus.

BENTONVILLE — Frank Troseth tells people he’s been a Northwest Arkansas Community College professor since two semesters before the college started.
One might think he’s pulling their leg, but he has just been at the college for a really long time. Troseth first started teaching at the college when it was technically still called " West Campus” and was part of North Arkansas College. In 1990, however, voters in the Rogers and Bentonville school districts decided to create NWACC, and Troseth continued teaching at the then fledgling college.
Troseth retired last week as the college’s first professor emeritus. He was honored during the May 19 Board of Trustees meeting. Professor emeritus status means Troseth is welcome to return to the college to teach, even though he’s retired, explained Jim Hall, NWACC’s director of public relations.
That’s exactly what Troseth plans to do. The 82-year-old will teach an astronomy course, he said. He’s taught astronomy courses at NWACC for several years, even though a majority of his career has been in the math and physics departments. His first teaching assignments at the college were math for general education and college physics.
“I was the physics department for many years, ” he said.
Troseth first learned of the need for a teacher when he visited the state’s employment office. He was told that the “ West Campus” was enrolling students, so it was possible there could be an opening.
“It’s fun,” he said. " It’s been nice working with young people and opening their eyes a little bit.”
Troseth and his wife, Marjorie, moved to the area 20 years ago from the Dallas, Texas area. He had earned his juris doctorate from Southern Methodist University in Dallas and was working at Mobil in the geophysical department. The couple moved to Arkansas when his parents retired, and the couple now live in the home his parents built on Beaver Lake a few years after the lake was created.
Even though Troseth plans to still teach one course, he does plan to enjoy his retirement. The couple said they plan to spend time together and with their grandchildren.
