Wal-Mart Central Regional Operations Center donates funds
for use on NWACC’s Post Oak Savannah area
BENTONVILLE (Tuesday, May 13, 2008) – The NorthWest Arkansas Community College Foundation received a $2,500 donation Thursday, May 8, from the Wal-Mart Central Regional Operations Center.
The donation will be used on the NWACC Outdoor Living Laboratory on the north side of the main campus.
Marvin L. Galloway, Ph.D., Dean of Science and Mathematics Department, said the NWACC Science Department will use this grant to fund student-led EAST/EMPACTS projects.
"Students will work in teams on class projects to plan and then expand some of the NWACC trails into the Post Oak Savannah ecosystem, along with signage of various environmental features and plants,” Galloway said. “Ultimately, students, faculty, staff, and the Bentonville and Rogers community at large, will be able to walk the expanded trail and appreciate the natural and educational value of the Post Oak Savannah, and other elements of this diverse multi-ecosystem on the NWACC campus.”
Galloway and Becky Hudson, representing the NWACC Foundation, accepted the $2,500 check from Alfredo Ybarra on behalf of Wal-Mart Stores Inc. Central Regional Operations Center. Ybarra is Training Manager at Wal-Mart's Central Regional Operations Center.
Student David Walker initiated the request for funds. Walker is a Wal-Mart Stores Inc. Load Logistics Manager and works at the same facility.
