NWACC graduates first HVAC class
BENTONVILLE (Friday, May 09, 2008) – NorthWest Arkansas Community College graduated its first class of students enrolled in an 18-month Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) program.
NWACC Skilled Trades Coordinator Rick Mayes said the students’ accomplishment will help them through economic hard times.
“It’s not easy to attend and complete any 18-month program that requires you to attend two nights per week,” Mayes said. “It’s a testament to all students and their families to make the sacrifices necessary to obtain this certification.
“Most of the students already have jobs, but with the economy as it is in the industry, this makes them more marketable.”
The ceremony for the 13 graduates was held Thursday, May 8, at the Shewmaker Center. The Skilled Trades program is part of NWACC’s Corporate Learning Division.
The HVAC program uses classroom and hands-on teaching in technology bays to gain knowledge of basic commercial and residential systems, Mayes said. The program requires 360 classroom hours.
“We are very proud of our program,” Mayes said. “We feel like we have a quality staff of instructors who bring a wide variety of experience and knowledge to these students.”
The next HVAC classes begin the first week of August 2008. Contact Mayes at 479-936-5162 for more information.
