NWACC to celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week
NWACC will celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week November 17-23.
“Global Entrepreneurship Week is an initiative to inspire young people around the world to embrace innovation, imagination and creativity,” George Tanner, NWACC entrepreneurship professor and SIFE Advisor/Sam Walton Fellow, said.
A range of activities has been planned to mark entrepreneurial efforts.
Entrepreneurship will be discussed in courses across the curriculum and student entrepreneurial successes will be highlighted, Tanner said.
The NWACC chapter of Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) will present its fall Jack Shewmaker Business Leaders Lecture Series with local entrepreneur Bill Stribling of the Stribling Group discussing entrepreneurship and sustainability.
The lecture is 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, in the NWACC Shewmaker Center.
“This event promises to be invaluable for students, local entrepreneurs, and anyone interested in the future direction of business,” Tanner said.
Dr. Julio S. Leon will be speaking noon Wednesday in Burns Hall Room 2303 with an informal reception to follow.
Dr. Leon is past president of Missouri Southern State University and has had a remarkable career filled with entrepreneurial accomplishments, Tanner said.
“He will be discussing entrepreneurship in educational settings,” Tanner said. “This event promises to be a great opportunity for educators, students, student leaders, and organization sponsors to interact with an educational entrepreneur who has successful grown a university and a multitude of related components.
Theresa Barrera and Celia Swanson of Wal-Mart Stores Inc. will be featured 6 p.m. Thursday in the Wal-Mart Auditorium of the Shewmaker Center. Ms Barrera will discuss her rise from an hourly employee to division merchandise manager to her present position as Vice President of Diversity.
Ms. Swanson, senior vice-president at Wal-Mart, will talk about change management and sustainability.
Each of these events is open to the public and is sponsored by SIFE, the Retail Leadership Society, and NWACC’s Entrepreneurship program.
