The initial endeavor has been focused from the high school level through the Associate in Applied Science Degree in Logistics & Transportation Technology, and the creation of the bachelor’s degree component is being funded through the ADTEC University Center. Through a recently awarded second NSF grant, MATTEC is engaging local, regional, and national partners in planning activities to develop a proposal for an NSF National Center of Excellence in Transportation, Distribution, and Logistics Technology.

Additional funding support for various components of the project has been provided by the Arkansas Department of Workforce Education, the Arkansas Delta WIRED (ADWIRED) initiative and the U.S. Department of Labor.

Ricky Tompkins will present a session in Ambassador Ballroom B on "Grant Writing for Everyone."

In the current economic climate, more responsibility is being placed on community colleges to find funding other than state appropriations.

One avenue for funding and implementation of new programs is through grants. This seminar will provide direction and tips for effective grant writing and mitigate the fear from proposal writing.

Barbara Rademacher and Carol Olson will present a session in Ambassador Ballroom D on the E.M.P.A.C.T.S. of Powerful Projects.

During Spring Semester, 2008, the NWACC Mathematics and Science Department and Department of Psychology collaborated in presenting linked developmental mathematics and psychology classes designed to assist math-anxious students in overcoming their anxiety. This workshop presents the process and results of those classes with lecture and hands-on activities.

Marvin Galloway, Regina Ryel Thomason, and Dianne Phillips will present a session in Pinnacle Ballroom 6 on Accessing Success: Infusing Service Learning, Teams, and Technology into the College Curriculum.

The presenters and participants will actively examine a cross-curricular service learning delivery system, EMPACTS, that recently received a League of Innovations Innovation award. According to an August 2008 report from the Arkansas Task Force on Higher Education, 88% of voters support 21st Century skill development in critical thinking, problem solving, technology, communication and self-direction within a curricular framework.

This 12-15 week process developed by NWACC faculty promotes development of these skills by combining the power of cutting-edge technology, authentic teamwork, and significant community service in a manner that helps students develop their own interests and aptitudes while creating “deeper learning” of course outcomes. Over 200 community projects have been successfully completed across the curriculum in 20+ courses.

Highlights, student projects, and benefits will be shared.

Pat Kelly will present a session in Ambassador Ballroom E on MS Project.

This session will focus on the basics of using Microsoft Project to facilitate on-time completion and tracking of resources needed to complete medium to large size campus projects. This session will demonstrate the product interface and include handouts on best practices and simple projects for analysis by participants.

Pat Kelly will present a session in Pinnacle Ballroom 2 on Online Surveys and Zoomerang.

Find out how NWACC increased use of online surveys by more than 200% over the past year. Online surveys allow all sorts of data to be gathered from student evaluating classes to public input on strategic initiatives.

Several solutions will be demonstrated with emphasis on cost effectiveness and ROI.

Donna Wood and Tim Cornelius will present a session in Pinnacle Ballroom 3 on Building Entrepreneurship Education Curriculum Partners Across the State.

The presenters will discuss the process involved with partnering for a statewide entrepreneurship curriculum. The partnership was forged with 10 colleges in the state who agreed to a certificate/option in Entrepreneurship as a part of their AAS degree in Business Management.
