Long time law enforcement officer and instructor named Director of Public Safety at NWACC

Gary DennisBENTONVILLE (Monday, Sept. 15, 2008) - A long time law enforcement officer and instructor, Gary Dennis has been named Director of Public Safety at NorthWest Arkansas Community College, President Dr. Becky Paneitz has announced.

Dennis begins his new position at NWACC Wednesday, Oct. 1.

He most recently has been a training instructor at ADC Training Academy, where he instructed basic and management level classes and served as the law enforcement coordinator for the department.

Dennis began working in law enforcement as a Deputy Sheriff for Yell County in 1980 and then for the police department at Dardanelle.

He started his campus law enforcement career at Westark Community College, now UAFS, in 1989.
Dennis worked at Arkansas State University-Beebe and was promoted to Assistant Director of Public Safety at the ASU main campus in Jonesboro.

Dennis went to Arkansas Tech as Director of Public Safety and began teaching criminal justice as well as an adjunct instructor.

He has a senior law enforcement certificate and is a law enforcement and firearms instructor.

Dennis is a Field Training Officer, a CPR instructor, and a NIMS instructor.

He has numerous hours of training in law enforcement and management from ALETA and the Criminal Justice Institute.

He completed ALETA in 1981 and earned an Associate Degree from Westark Community College in 1993.

He earned a BS in Criminal Justice at Park University and an MS in Criminal Justice Administration from the University of Alabama. He is a graduate of Arkansas Lead.

Among his professional affiliations, he served as first and second vice-president of the Arkansas Chiefs of Police Association. Dennis served as a board member on the Arkansas Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators.

He is serving in his 21st year the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve as Chief Petty Officer at the Marine Safety Detachment in Fort Smith.

He has a teenage daughter, Macey Dennis
