Federal financial aid awards increase by 47 percent

BENTONVILLE (Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008) - Federal financial aid awarded at NorthWest Arkansas Community College has increased 47 percent over the same time one year ago, NWACC Financial Director Michelle Cordell reported.

“As of August 28, 2008, we have awarded 2,462 students as compared to 1,309 students the same time last year,” she said. “The receipt of FAFSAs is up 19 percent for this year. As of August 28, we have received 4,666 FAFSAs as compared 3,801 for the same time last year.”

She said NWACC can attribute the increased numbers and percentages to two factors:
• Implementation of the auto packaging process in June
• Not verifying student’s file until they have completed an application for admission

“Special thanks to Tricia Sparks in IT for all her hard work in helping us implement the auto packaging process and to all my staff,” she said. “It has truly been a team effort and they have all given 110 percent!”
