Comparing World Religions largest class at CATC
BELLA VISTA (Thursday, August 28, 2008) – More than 55 students are attending a four-hour course conducted by Dr. Thad Moore, Sr., at College at the Crossing (CATC), the NorthWest Arkansas Community College facility here.
The class began Tuesday, Aug. 26, and meets weekly through Sept. 16.
Rev. Moore (pictured at right) is Pastor at the Bella Vista Community Church. The course is exploring the basics of Islam, Judaism, and Christianity. Holy books from each faith will be compared, as well as what each faith says about afterlife, heaven, proper conduct and how we relate to the God of their religion will be covered.
“We are pleased that a personal enrichment class such as this one can attract so many participants,” CATC Executive Director Jean Anderson said. “We look forward to more such highly-attended classes.”
Rev. Moore said, “I have never seen people so attentive and interested in learning about their own religion as well as others.”
Other non-credit enrichment classes starting in September are:
• Let’s Talk, Sept. 9-Oct. 14 with instructor Kay Mathews;
• Spanish for Travelers I, Sept. 9-25 with instructor Dr. Richard Murie;
• Bidding (Bridge) in the 21st Century, Sept. 8-24 with instructor Byrl Malmanger;
• Watercolor Floral Painting Using Rice Paper, Sept. 25-Oct. 16 with instructor Sharon Simmons;
• Email and Internet, Sept. 23-Oct. 9 with instructor Chuck Billman;
• Intro to Computers I, Sept. 23-Oct. 9 with instructor Billman; and
• Arkansas Wine Country, a field trip on Sept. 30.
CATC is also enrolling students in non-credit professional skills and talent development classes. Continuing Education Units are awarded. Classes starting in September are:
• Marketing for Non-Profits, Sept. 25-Oct. 9 with instructor Ed Zegler;
• Excel 2007 Level I, Sept. 16-Oct. 2 with instructor Peggy Glur; and
• PowerPoint 2007, Sept. 22-Oct. 6 with instructor Peggy Glur.
