Journal Essay Information and Format

Psyc 1003- The Successful First Year Student

Spring 2005

The Journal Essay is an opportunity to practice writing, improve your computer skills and gain proficiency in time management. Writing is a learned skill and not something that comes naturally. The 6 Journal Essays to be completed as described below. Attached is an excellent example of how a Journal Essay is to be completed. All Journal Essays are to be structured as indicated below and submitted as an email attachment to your instructor.

  • Prepare in Times Roman or Courier font ONLY. No fancy fonts.
  • Prepare in 12 point type fact only (this is a 12 point type face).
  • Double-space with one-inch margins on ALL sides
  • ALL Journal Essays MUST be completed and completed on time to get full credit for this portion of the grading system.
  • The Essay is to be no less than one page and no more than two pages.

A time management recommendation:

Complete the Essays on a regular basis, i.e. every Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 PM (or something similar). Keep a copy of the Essays on your disk or CD. Don't get behind!  It becomes difficult to "catch up."

Good luck!! You will do well.
